This timepiece is curated from Carlo Biagiolis private collection.
Here's his take:
"The Movado Ermeto in 18K gold was a custom, ordered by the prestigious Cartier jewelry who requested it to be customized with their logo. A real time capsule that has stood the test of time for one hundred years without any trace. It has a breathtaking charisma which is even more impressive in real life than you can already guess from the photo. Next to the condition and charisma, this watch amazes with the ability to wind it up by simply closing and opening its case – a revolutionary technology at the time that is still impressive today due to its constant functionality. The watch comes from an important Italian collection."
Here's ours:
You think you’ve seen some cool things…and then this comes along! We are delighted to offer this amazing Movado Ermeto travel watch in a beautiful yellow gold sliding case.
Like most things of this era, nothing is there by accident and the action of opening and closing the sliding case actually winds the movement! Inside, the dial is double signed Cartier (see, we told you it was cool) and the white dial features applied Arabic Breguet numerals and blued steel hands.
To us, this piece reminds us of a much more genteel pace of life – long before our crazy digital world – when glamor and quality were the order of the day. The watch was, we believe, a Christmas gift in 1928 – the caseback has an engraving: “Morton Fogal - Christmas 1928, E.H.R. Green”.
The automatic Movado movement has been fully checked by our watchmaker.
We love these watches and have written an article about the history of them Read it .
